The marathon will begin at 4:00 am on Sunday, August 1 and will require them to complete the full Limerick City marathon route twice (and continue a third time until they hit 100km!).

The runners said, “After such a positive reaction last year to our 95K Walk in aid of Saoirse Addiction Centre.  Resilient runners are back in 2021 to take on a monster challenge and hopefully raise some well-needed funds and awareness for Limerick Suicide Watch. In August we will aim to run 100KM around Limerick City in 1 day!”

“The global pandemic has put so much pressure and stress on all of us over the last year however that did not stop the guys from Limerick Suicide Watch walking our beautiful city day and night trying to help anybody who needs it. Whether you need a cup of tea, a hug, or just someone to listen to, they are there,” the runners added.

Limerick Suicide Watch provides community outreach, a suicide awareness programme and works to identify and provide support to those in distress and who may be contemplating suicide. They are a voluntary based group that rely 100% on public donations.

Their focus is to keep eyes on the River Shannon and identify and provide support to those in distress and who may be contemplating suicide. Their patrol teams are on duty Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday night. Fundraising goes towards uniforms, jackets, PFD’s, and any other essential gear.

Derek Byrnes of Resilient Runners said, “We will do all we can to help raise awareness for this brilliant charity and we hope you can join us in supporting them. Whatever you can do is greatly appreciated. Share, donate and spread the word. Sometimes our restrictions are only in our head.”
