Limerick GAA stars Richie English and Kathleen Fitzgibbon tie the knot with a beautiful spring wedding with family, friends, and their teammates

Richie English and Kathleen Fitzgibbon, two of Limerick’s celebrated sportspeople, tied the knot this past weekend, with celebrations at Dromoland Castle surrounded by friends, family, and their Limerick GAA teammates.
With just over one year since announcing his retirement from inter-county senior hurling, Richie English is now celebrating the beginning of a new chapter, as he and his wife, Limerick Ladies’ Gaelic Football player, Kathleen Fitzgibbon, were married at the Sacred Heart church in the bride’s hometown of Oola, with English’s parish priest from Doon, Fr Jimmy Donnelly officiating the ceremony.
Both bride and groom have enjoyed impressive sporting careers with both holding All-Ireland medals in their respective code; English holds five All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship medals, having played his part in the county’s most successful inter-county senior hurling team, and Fitzgibbon writing her name in the history books as part of the 2018 All-Ireland junior football-winning team.
The couple’s attire on the day lived up to their incredible sporting careers, with Kathleen wearing a beautiful strapless gown with a sweetheart neckline, while Richie wore a classic black and white tuxedo.
Following the ceremony in Oola, their marriage was celebrated at the beautiful grounds of Dromoland Castle for an evening of music, dancing, and beautiful speeches. Among the guests in attendance were former Limerick senior hurling captain, Declan Hannon with his wife, TV and radio presenter, Louise Cantillon, who both celebrated their own wedding in 2023.

Other sports stars among the guests were Richie’s cousin, Cork senior hurler, Darragh Fitzgibbon, and Kathleen’s brother and Doon senior hurler, Eoin Fitzgibbon.
Announcing his retirement in 2025, English thanked Kathleen for her support throughout his career, saying, “Thank you to my family, friends and partner Kathleen for their help and support throughout my career. I would like to thank my clubs Doon and Oola, along with my underage coaches, for their guidance and encouragement over the years.”
