Rockin the Classroom a multiplatform, exciting new music project for children

In the absence of the opportunity for school children to experience live performances Branar, the Lime Tree Theatre and The Linenhall Arts Centre have joined forces to deliver an exciting new music project for children in Junior & Senior Infants, First and Second Class.

Rockin the Classroom is a pilot multiplatform initiative that brings the music from Branar’s lively musical show Rockin’ Rhymes into classes throughout counties Limerick, Galway and Mayo.  

Performed by a band of 5 musicians, Rockin’ Rhymes is a rock-n-roll adventure, featuring nursery rhymes as you’ve never heard them before. Well-loved nursery rhymes are reimagined in funk, pop and rock stylings. 

Rockin the Classroom offers children and teachers the opportunity to enjoy and explore these nursery rhyme classics, discover the world of music and learn about music-making. The project hopes to inspire children to create their own rocking rhymes.

Each class will receive a CD album, a dedicated education pack for teachers and exclusive access to a short series of videos introducing children to the band itself and their instruments.

“At a time when the Lime Tree Theatre unfortunately can’t invite school children into the theatre, we are delighted to be part of this new exciting initiative with Branar. Teachers and young pupils in Limerick and the Midwest region will get so much from Rockin’ the Classroom CD and education pack, it’s so much fun. As always Branar are leading the way with innovative and creative ways to reach their young audience,” said Gillian Fenton, Marketing Manager, Lime Tree Theatre.

Branar’s Marc Mac Lochlainn said, “We are really missing performing for children at present. Over the past few months, Branar along with our partners in venues and festivals around the country have been exploring ways to reach our audiences in the absence of live performance. Rockin the Classroom provides children and teachers to enjoy the music from our highly successful show Rockin’ Rhymes, which was due to tour this Autumn. We completely understand the challenges young children and teachers are experiencing at this time, and we hope that Rockin’ the Classroom will bring joy and rich teaching and learning opportunities.”

Sunday Business described Rockin’ Rhymes as “..sassy strings, percussive panache and a score that will have you jiving in your seat.” 

Each class pack is free. Package and posting is €7.50 per pack. 

There is limited availability for this project so early registration is essential.

The closing date is 5pm Friday, October 23.
