Last Lecture in Limerick Civic Trust Lecture Series featuring Roger Madelin

International Property Developer Roger Madelin will examine why developers get such bad press during a talk at the Limerick Civic Trust’s Autumn Lecture Series on Thursday 19 October at St Mary’s Cathedral.

Roger Madelin will explain how thinking is progressing in the new challenging social and political landscape.  He will also have some opinions regarding Limerick, as he visited the city a short time ago in preparation for his lecture – walking the streets and talking to locals. Ireland’s housing crises, Limerick’s regeneration project and the Limerick 2030 plan will also come under scrutiny.

He is best known for being the CEO of Argent Group PLC which was selected in 2000 as the developer for 67 acres of railway land between and to the north of King’s Cross and St. Pancras Stations. The largest city centre regeneration project in Europe. He has been quoted as saying:

This is the final lecture in the Limerick Civic Trust’s Autumn Lecture Series.  Organised in conjunction with UL’s Kemmy Business School and the support of LIT and Limerick Council, the six-part series of public lectures examined many topical issues like the impact of Brexit, Trumpism, immigration, integration in multi-cultural societies, censorship and lots more.

Previous speakers in the series included; former head of HSBC, Stephen Green, Shaykh Dr Uma Al-Qadri, head Imam of Al-Mustafa Islamic Educational & cultural Centre Ireland, Index on Censorship CEO Jodie Ginsberg, Irish Times correspondent Simon Carswell and international architect Ian Ritchie.

Proceeds from the series will be used by the Limerick Civic Trust for the restoration of St. Munchin’s Church in the heart of King’s Island.

Over the past 30 years Roger Madelin has lead major property development projects in several towns and cities and is going to talk to us about his experiences of working with political leaders, public sector administrations and communities. ‘Changing the physical environment is a privilege, changing the social, environmental and economic nature of those places comes with responsibility’.

Roger has been involved in proposals and projects in Edinburgh, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Reading and London. At British Land where Roger joined in February 2016, he has found a FTSE 100 company quietly doing and very much supporting much of the good community and environmental work that he had promoted at Argent.

This event will take place at 6pm on Thursday 19th October at St Mary’s Cathedral, Limerick.  Admission is €12 or concessions €8 per lecture.
