Author Roisin Meaney has done it again with her latest novel The Restaurant. The No. 1 bestselling author has risen up the bestselling literary charts to claim the seventh spot for herself and her newest book.

Roisin Meaney isn’t a rookie in the Irish literary world whatsoever. This expert, hailing from Listowel, Co. Kerry, has traveled and lived across the world but has since settled in Limerick. Some of her popular, previous works include One Summer, After the Wedding, I’ll Be Home for Christmas, The Anniversary, The Last Week of May and many more. With 17 novels and 2 children’s books under her belt, Roisin Meaney has not and will not stop her successful stride.

The Restaurant finds Roisin Meaney and its main character Emily in quite the predicament. When chef Emily is left at the altar in front of her family and friends, she swears off love forever and instead throws herself into her new business: a restaurant with a difference, designed with the single diner in mind.

Two years later, with her business thriving with regular customers, romance is still the last thing on Emily’s mind – until she receives a letter from her ex who is returning home from Canada with a burning question for her. The book has audiences wondering if Emily will give up her business for the life she used to want, or if she will realise that happiness might be on the menu a little closer to home.

The book was just published on Thursday, June 4 by Hachette Ireland and has already received many praises from reviewers. The Irish Examiner wrote, “Meaney weaves wonderful feel-good tales of a consistently high standard. And that standard rises with each book she writes.” 

In addition, the Irish Independent said, “Meaney is utterly credible, utterly authentic, utterly irresistible.”

Roisin Meaney herself commented on the writing process of The Restaurant and why she finds it so special. She said, “I loved writing The Restaurant because I’m always happiest when I’m writing about food, and forever trying to sneak food descriptions into my stories, so a book set in an actual restaurant was the perfect story for me. I was in my element looking through my cookbooks and picking out dishes to describe as they left the kitchen and landed in front of the diners!  The book was a joy to write. I should add that there’s a lot more in it than food descriptions though!”

Roisin discussed the quick success of her book despite the Covid-19 climate as well, saying, “I’m thrilled to have my 17th book out now, pandemic or no pandemic. I had a great virtual launch in O’Mahonys bookshop, just a few days before they opened their doors again (which I’m also thrilled about, of course). The launch was just me and manager Colette Cotter, and a few other staff members, one of whom, Caterina O’Brien, made a video of Colette saying a few words of welcome and me giving my usual spiel and reading a little from the book, and they added more videos to it afterwards from my editor, and a few kind writer pals who each made their own at home. My mother and my sister jumped in too with their videos, so the finished product was great.”

“I was told that O’Mahony’s online business was going great, so it sounds like people were reading a lot during lockdown. All good. The book has gone into the bestseller list at number 7 which I’m delighted about, thanks so much to all who bought it.”
