Ireland’s top para swimmers were celebrated at the 2025 Swim Ireland Awards, held at the beginning of November at the Crowne Plaza, Blanchardstown, where the achievements of athletes across Irish aquatics were recognised following another exceptional season on the world stage.

Róisín Ní Riain was named Para Swimmer of the Year, capping off an extraordinary season that confirmed her place among the world’s elite. The Limerick swimmer enjoyed a standout performance at the World Para Swimming Championships in September, where she secured five medals an incredible three silver and two bronze. Her consistency, determination, and technical excellence across multiple events marked her as one of the country’s brightest hopes heading into the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.

Róisín Ní Riain and her Ireland teammates made a triumphant return to home soil following a hugely successful 2025 World Para Swimming Championships competition in Singapore back in September.

In what is noted as the first major championships of the LA Cycle, the Limerick swimmer had a remarkable outing as she took on some of the world’s best in the sport, joining her four Team Ireland teammates as they lined up in 15 events across the week.

Team Ireland brought home an amazing seven medals from the 15 events, with Ní Riain achieving the remarkable feat of winning five medals; the Drombana swimmer won silvers in the SB13 100m Breaststroke, S13 400m Freestyle and S13 100m Backstroke, along with bronzes in the S13 100m Butterfly and SM13 200m IM.

Also honoured on the night was Dearbhaile Brady, who received the Female Performance Pathway Athlete of the Year for Para Swimming. Brady’s performances at the World Para Swimming Championships were equally impressive, where she captured silver and bronze medals, further establishing herself as one of Ireland’s most promising emerging Para swimmers.
