Róisín Ní Riain joins Team Ireland for the 2025 World Para Swimming Championships, an opportunity to compete against the world’s best

In August, Paralympics Ireland announced the team which will travel to Singapore for the upcoming World Para Swimming Championships, which will see Team Ireland compete against some of the world’s best para swimmers.
Limerick’s Róisín Ní Riain will join Team Ireland to compete in five separate events, giving her the perfect opportunity to build on her amazing achievements at the Paris Paralympic Games.
Róisín Ní Riain will build on her double Paralympic medal-winning performances at the Paris 2024 Paralympics and return as the S13 100m Backstroke world champion.
She first competed at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo 2020 as a 16 year old, reaching five finals, and at just 20 years old is already one of Ireland’s most accomplished Para swimmers.
Ní Riain will compete on day one in S13, SB13, and SM13 in the 100m Butterfly, 100m Breaststroke, 100m Backstroke, 400m Freestyle, and 200m Individual Medley.
Paralympics Ireland CEO, Stephen McNamara wished the swim team the very best of luck for the competition. He said, “The preparation work is done and now it’s about putting those plans into action. This is an exciting time for our athletes and we can’t wait to see them compete.”
Para Swimming Head Coach, Hayley Burke added, “Our athletes have been working extremely hard in preparation for Singapore, and this World Championships provides a fantastic opportunity to test ourselves against the very best in the world.
“For some, it will be a chance to build on their Paralympic experience in Paris, while for others it’s about gaining vital exposure on the international stage. We are confident that this team will not only perform with pride but also continue their progression towards Los Angeles 2028.”
