Limerick swimmer Róisín Ní Riain and Team Ireland made a triumphant return home following a successful 2025 World Para Swimming Championships where Ní Riain win an incredible five medals

Róisín Ní Riain and her Ireland teammates made a triumphant return to home soil following a hugely successful 2025 World Para Swimming Championships competition in Singapore.

In what is noted as the first major championships of the LA Cycle, the Limerick swimmer had a remarkable outing as she took on some of the world’s best in the sport, joining her four Team Ireland teammates as they lined up in 15 events across the week.

Team Ireland brought home an amazing seven medals from the 15 events, with Ní Riain achieving the remarkable feat of winning five medals; the Drombana swimmer won silvers in the SB13 100m Breaststroke, S13 400m Freestyle and S13 100m Backstroke, along with bronzes in the S13 100m Butterfly and SM13 200m IM.

Speaking after their arrival, Para Swimming Head Coach, Hayley Burke, said, “It was a brilliant week. We had two debutants in Deaten and Síomha, so to have five athletes who now have such big experience on the world stage so early on in the Cycle is huge. It sets us up in a really strong and positive place. It was commented on by other nations that we are a presence to be known.

“Róisín’s target was five medals out of five, and she achieved that. To pick up bronze and silver is a great place to be; she’s the one coming after the gold, it’s a really nice position to be in.”

Ní Riain added her fifth medal on the final day of the competition, earning bronze in the SM13 200m IM, touching the wall in a time of 2:29.75, capping off a week where she achieved an impressive haul of medals while setting some sought-after personal bests.

Speaking after the final about her achievement, Ní Riain said, “To be honest, that was my goal coming here, not a goal that I obviously told anyone but you know what I wanted to achieve coming here. The time there wasn’t the best, but I suppose it’s just about learning to race all these events at a major like this.”
