Limerick’s Róisín Ní Riain one of nine athletes representing Ireland at the upcoming Para Swimming World Series Barcelona

Limerick’s Róisín Ní Riain has been named among the nine athletes representing Ireland at the upcoming Para Swimming World Series in Barcelona.
The World Series is a key event on the international Para swimming calendar, Ní Riain will travel with Team Ireland taking to the water at the competition between March 19 to 22.
The Para Swimming World Series provides valuable racing opportunities for athletes competing against strong global fields, featuring elite swimmers from across the world competing in events across the season.
Ní Riain make the trip to Spain with her eight teammates including Dearbhaile Brady, Barry McClements, Luke Brennan, Ellie Lynch, Luke O’Donoghue, Maya Hogan, Sam Black and Deaten Registe.
Competition begins on Thursday, 19 March, with Irish swimmers taking to the pool for the 100m Freestyle, with Ní Riain among the athletes scheduled to compete in the event. Friday sees the Limerick swimmer take part in the 100m Breaststroke, and a busy series will see her compete in the demanding 400m Freestyle on Saturday. On Sunday, the final day of competition, Ní Riain will join teammates back in the pool for the 100m Butterfly.
Róisín Ní Riain comes into the series in amazing form, having set a new European record in the S13 50m Backstroke at the McCullagh International Meet on February 21, at the Sport Ireland National Aquatic Centre, Dublin. The swimmer clocked 30.71 to break the existing record of 30.72, which had stood since 2016.
