Róisín Ní Riain qualifies for S13 100m Butterfly Final at Paris 2024

Limerick athlete, Róisín Ní Riain has qualified for the women’s 100m Butterfly Final at the Paris 2024 Paralympic games following a strong performance in this morning’s heats earning her a fifth place overall finish and a place in the final.

Roisín Ní Riain, the Drombana native has had an incredible 2024 to date having won the women’s 100m breaststroke SB13 final on day two of the 2024 European Para Swimming Championships in Madeira, Portugal this past April.

Ní Riain now adds to the incredible achievements of 2024 and her career having qualified for the Women’s 100m Butterfly final at this year’s Paralympics being held in Paris.

Finishing in a time of 1:06.40 in her heat, the Limerick athlete finished fifth overall, fourth in her heat, but with a good enough time to make it through the final.

Róisín, swimming out of lane 3, started out strong and was in second place after the first 50m, but with tough competition, the Limerick swimmer done well to hold in at fourth and with a quick enough time to see her book a place in the final.

Róisín’s performance gives her the chance to be back in action this evening as the women’s 100m Butterfly Final will take place this evening, Friday, August 29th, with the swimmers scheduled to take to the pool at 7:15pm.

Also joining Ní Riain in a final this evening will be Nicole Turner who finished fifth place with a time of 35.35 in her heats overall for the women’s 50m Freestyle with teammate Dearbhaile Brady sadly missing out with a time of 36.45 finishing tenth overall.

Turner will be in action at 6.17pm this evening, be fore Ní Riain, with both athletes hoping to get Team Ireland off to a medal-winning start on day one of competition at the 2024 Paris Paralympic games.

Richard is a presenter, producer, songwriter and actor. He was named the Limerick Person of the Year (2011) and won an online award at the Metro Éireann Media and Multicultural Awards (2011) for promoting multi-culturalism online.
