Roses tour to Limerick on their way to Tralee for the international festival

The International Rose of Tralee tour was visiting Alex Findlaters cafe and restaurant on Wednesday, August 15 in the afternoon followed by lunch in the restaurant.

Councillor Vivienne Crowley from Limerick City and County Council attended the event at the restaurant and welcomed the roses.

56 Roses from all over the world are competing for the international Rose of Tralee were in Limerick today. They joined together for the journey to Tralee and this is the only stop in Limerick that the roses are making outside of Dublin on their way to the festival.

Hazel Ni Chathasaigh from Roxboro Road is representing Limerick at the Rose of Tralee International Festival 2018, which was announced at the Limerick Rose Selection at Thomond Park Stadium on Saturday, March 10.

Speaking of being selected as the Limerick Rose, Hazel said: “I am delighted of being selected as the Limerick Rose. It was a whirlwind experience.”

Hazel is a 23-year-old physiotherapist, working at University Hospital Limerick, and is a proud Gaeilgeoir having attended Gaelcholaiste Luimnigh before progressing to the University of Limerick. An avid rugby supporter and tag rugby player, Hazel has her own published research in sports physiotherapy.

Roses enjoyed the warm welcome of Limerick and their lunch in the Alex Findlaters before they made the rest of the journey to Tralee.

The Rose of Tralee International Festival is one of Ireland’s largest and longest running festivals and will celebrate 59 years in 2018. The heart of the festival is the selection of the Rose of Tralee which brings young women of Irish descent from around the world to County Kerry for a global celebration of Irish culture. The festival also includes street entertainment, carnivals, live concerts, theatre, circus, markets, funfair, fireworks and the internationally renowned Rose Parade.
