Royal De Luxe Limerick Giant Day Two

Around 75,000 people lined the streets of Limerick city in glorious sunshine as the #LimerickGiant continued her journey. Huge crowds, including the Minister for Defence Simon Coveney and businessman JP McManus, gathered from 9am at Sarsfield Barracks to see granny waking up with the help of her small army of Lilliputians. As the giant woke, the sun broke through the clouds to delight of the thousands of onlookers.

After moving from her bed to her wheelchair, Granny enjoyed a few sips of whiskey for breakfast before taking a few puffs of her pipe as she listened to a recording of a story about the Famine.

As granny left Sarsfield Barracks, tens of thousand of people lined the streets as she made her way to King’s Island and Lee Estate, travelling along Parnell Street and William Street before crossing Sarsfield Bridge and passing by the Treaty Stone and King John’s Castle.

Along the way, onlookers got a surprise at the junction of O’Connell Street and William Street when granny decided to relieve herself following her liquid breakfast.

Following her afternoon nap at Lee Estate, Granny travelled back through the city centre to Henry Street where she was presented with a 80 foot scarf which was knitted by members of the Limerick Craft Hub.

After meeting newly-weds Lyndsey O’Rourke and Tom Brett near the Strand Hotel Granny then travelled to Shelbourne Park via Thomondgate, passing Thomond Park along the way.
