The Wellness Rooms were developed by Limerick Youth Service

Two Wellness Hubs that will aid young people in rural and isolated communities to access mental health supports have been launched by Limerick Youth Service (LYS).

Located in Castleconnell and Rathkeale, the Wellness Hubs will give you young people an opportunity to speak virtually with a counsellor or youth mental health worker in a safe and private space.

The Wellness Rooms were developed by LYS after research from the youth organisation identified  a number of barriers facing young people in rural areas who wish to access mental health supports.

After consultation with the young people, LYS in partnership with the HSE established the two Wellbeing Rooms at Rathkeale Youth Space and the East Limerick Youth Space, Shannon House, Castleconnell, Co. Limerick.

‘A lack of transport in rural areas, poor Wi-Fi and privacy were the three main challenges that our focus groups highlighted,’ said Melissa Bones, LYS Rural Youth Mental Health Worker.

‘Both Wellness Hubs are private spaces where the young person can speak with a counsellor via a secure connection online,’ said Melissa.

The Wellness Rooms are based at the East Limerick Youth Space, Shannon House, Castleconnell and Rathkeale Youth Space.

LYS’ Project was made possible through the support of RTE’s Late Late Toy Show Appeal in conjunction with the Community Foundation of Ireland.

The Project is a part of LYS’ Be Well Youth Mental Health Service that supports young people across Limerick City & County who need mental health supports.

A member of Youth Work Ireland, LYS remains committed to connecting with young people and supporting them to reach their full potential.
