Limerick raised actress Ruth Negga to star alongside Brad Pitt in sci-fi epic

Ruth Negga, Limerick raised actress and Oscar nominee will star in a new film alongside Hollywood actor Brad Pitt.

The film, Ad Astra, is a sci-fi epic from James Gray and will be financed by New Regency, 20th Century Fox and Bona Film Group. Ruth Negga’s role in the film is being kept under wraps currently.

Another big name attached to the project is Tommy Lee Jones. The film is described as an adventure film which focuses on one man’s journey across an unforgiving solar system to find his missing father, a renegade scientist who poses a threat to all of mankind.

Negga received an Academy Award and Golden Globe nomination for her role in the Jeff Nichols film, ‘Loving’ alongside Joel Edgerton. Ruth also stars in the AMC series ‘Preacher’.

Ruth Negga attended primary school in Roxborough before spending part of her secondary school studies at Scoil Carmel. She then moved to London and completed her drama studies at Trinity College Dublin.

Ruth Negga, former Love/Hate star still has a large family in Limerick where she spent many years after moving from her birthplace in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia at the age of four.

Negga’s breakout role was in the 2004 film Breakfast on Pluto followed by Ophelia at the National Theatre, the Misfits TV series on E4, and she also played Shirley Bassey in the BBC2 production, Shirley.

Negga has received praise from across Hollywood with esteemed actress Natalie Portman recently describing her as a “rare powerful talent”.

Negga was beaten to the Best Actress Oscar at this year’s Academy Award by Emma Stone for her performance in La La Land.

As well as her acting accolades, Negga has graced the covers of US Vogue as well as The New York Times Magazine and has become a favoured fashionista amongst her ever-growing fan base.

Negga has also signed up for a new animated film based on author Frank McCourt’s final work and his only children’s book, Angela and the Baby Jesus.

The half-hour film is now in production in Ireland and Negga has lent her voice as McCourt’s grandmother.
