Academy Award nominee Ruth Negga will make her Broadway debut in March next year.
The Limerick actress will be joining 007 actor Daniel Craig on stage, who has previously appeared in ‘A Steady Rain’ alongside Hugh Jackman and ‘Betrayal’ with his wife Rachel Weisz.
The pair will be starring in Shakespeare’s Macbeth, also known as ‘The Scottish Play.’
According to press materials, the tale of malice, murder and matrimony will, “capture the passion and ferocity of Shakespeare’s most haunting text like never before.”
The show will be directed by Tony Award winner Sam Gold, whose credits include ‘A Doll’s House, Part 2,’ and ‘Fun House.’
While this may be Ruth’s first Broadway production, she is no stranger to Shakespeare, appearing in a version of Hamlet at Brooklyn’s St Ann’s Warehouse, which was imported from Dublin’s Gate Theatre with an all-Irish cast early last year.
Ruth was born in Ethiopia to an Irish mother and an Ethiopian father. They met while her mother was working as a nurse there.
The actress lived there until she was 4 years old before moving to Limerick, where she grew up.
