Limerick actor Ruth Negga has been nominated for an Emmy Award ahead of the September 14 ceremony in Los Angeles
Ruth Negga has been heralded online for her performance in the Apple TV drama ‘Presumed Innocent’.

Limerick’s Ruth Negga is joined by fellow Irish actors Sharon Horgan and Colin Farrell to be nominated for Emmy Awards at this year’s ceremony.

Negga has been heralded online for her performance in the Apple TV drama ‘Presumed Innocent’, where she performs opposite Jake Gyllenhaal.

Based on the 1987 New York Times bestselling novel by Scott Turrow, the eight-episode drama stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Rusty Sabich, a chief deputy prosecutor whose life is thrown into chaos when he becomes the prime suspect in a murder case with Negga portraying Barbara Sabich, the protagonist’s wife where she delivers a performance which is being lauded by viewers and film writers.

Negga has been nominated in the ‘Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie’ category and will see competition from other acclaimed actors including Colin Farrell’s co-star Deirdre O’Connell from ‘The Penguin’ as well as Erin Doherty and Christine Tremarco both performing in ‘Adolescence’, Chloe Sevigny of ‘Monsters: The Lyle And Erik Menendez Story’, and Jenny Slate of ‘Dying For Sex’.

This year’s Emmy Awards will be the 77th edition of the awards and will be hosted by Nate Bargatze and broadcast from Los Angeles on September 14, 2025.

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS), founded in 1955, is dedicated to advancing the arts and sciences of television. The Emmy Awards recognise outstanding contributions across a variety of genres: Children’s & Family, Daytime, News & Documentary, Sports, and Technology & Engineering. In addition to the National Emmy Awards, NATAS administers Regional Emmy Awards through 19 chapters across the United States.

Born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Negga grew up in Limerick, having moved there at four years of age. Her love of acting brought her to Trinity College Dublin, where she honed her craft while pursuing drama studies.

The Limerick actress is best known for her roles in Preacher from 2016-2019 and as Mildred Loving in the movie Loving in 2016, a performance for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress. Negga was also nominated for a Tony  Award for Best Actress in a Play for her role as Lady Macbeth in a 2022 production of Macbeth.

Richard is a presenter, producer, songwriter and actor. He was named the Limerick Person of the Year (2011) and won an online award at the Metro Éireann Media and Multicultural Awards (2011) for promoting multi-culturalism online. Richard says that the ilovelimerick.com concept is very much a community driven project that aims to document life in Limerick. So, that in 20 years time people can look back and remember the events that were making the headlines.
