Minister Patrick O’Donovan TD has announced up to €5.7m to help ensure that the 2027 Ryder Cup produces a lasting legacy in Adare and in Limerick
Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport, Patrick O’Donovan TD, has announced funding from his Department of up to €5.7m to help ensure that the 2027 Ryder Cup produces a lasting legacy in Adare and in Limerick.
Key projects that have been identified including the refurbishment and extension of Adare Village Hall; the refurbishment of Adare Heritage Centre; enhancement of the Adare Public Realm and a tree planting sustainability initiative.
These projects will be delivered by Limerick City and County Council, who have welcomed the announcement, working in collaboration with the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport.

While preparations are already well underway for Limerick to position itself as the global epicentre of golf from September 13th – 19th in 2027, progressing these projects will see Adare as a key cultural and tourist hub in Limerick and the Midwest, benefitting the village’s community for generations to come.
Mayor of Limerick, John Moran, noted the aim of the investment is to create “a lasting legacy for both Adare and Limerick”.
He said, “The Ryder Cup is a very significant opportunity for us to showcase Limerick on the global stage. With this Government commitment, we will be in a position to work hand in hand with the Department and the community to improve local infrastructure and greatly strengthen Adare’s amenities.”
The Mayor said he was happy to see ptogression of tree planting around the village which is part of the council’s ambitions to “see many thousands of trees planted throughout the lifecycle of this Council”. He noted the project is “about ensuring the benefits of 2027 are felt long after the final putt is holed”.

Príomh Chomhairleoir of Limerick City and County Council, Cllr Catherine Slattery, said the announcement is “a strong vote of confidence in Adare and the wider Limerick community”.
She said, “Hosting the Ryder Cup will be a tremendous honour for us, though its true value will be in the lasting improvements we can make to Limerick as a whole. We want the Ryder Cup’s legacy to be in enhancing local facilities, supporting businesses and strengthening the fabric of our communities.”
Dr Pat Daly, Director General of Limerick City and County Council, added the announement gives “certainty” as they plan for September 2027 and beyond.
He said, “Limerick City and County Council is fully committed to working in close partnership with Government, local stakeholders and the wider Adare community to ensure these projects are delivered efficiently and to the highest possible standard. We stand ready to assist in whatever way we can to help realise a lasting legacy for Adare and Limerick.”
Limerick is preparing to welcome thousands of visitors, golfers, and media from around the globe. The 2027 Ryder Cup promises to be a celebration of sport, community, and the world famous Limerick embracing hospitality.
