Sadie Keogh is getting ready to shave her head to raise funds to place benches in the Oncology Garden at University Hospital of Limerick. Sadies head shave is set to go ahead on Thursday, March 21 at 6:15 pm.

Sadie set up a fundraiser on Go Fund Me to raise money for her kind cause, and it has been very successful so far!

The fundraiser is in the loving memory of Sadies mum, Marie Kett. Sadie wrote in the Go Fund Me post, “My beautiful mother, Marie Kett, passed away in the Oncology Unit at UHL on April 22 2021. My family and I spent a lot of time in the Oncology Unit with her during the week of her passing. In between visits we would spend time in the small garden at the Oncology Unit but would often have to take chairs from offices to have someplace to sit.”

The goal of Sadies head shave is to raise enough money to purchase benches for the garden in the oncology unit for families and loved ones to sit and have time together outside of the patient’s room. By doing so, families and patients can feel more comfortable during a tough time.

Sadie also mentioned that the benches purchased will be eco-friendly, plastic benches that don’t require any maintenance or upkeep. The benches will complement the oncology garden and will bring a great convenience to patients and families in the ward.

Sadies initial aim was to buy three benches, but due to the support and generous donations she has received, her next goal is to raise €2000 to buy 4 benches.

Her fundraiser is kindly supported by Mid-Western Cancer Foundation and Niall Colgan Hairdressing. So far, her creative and selfless fundraiser has been very successful, and her fundraiser will help many future families in the oncology unit at UHL!
