Limerick to receive a boost in jobs as two new Gala convenience stores open and agricultural firm Samco invest €2m in expansion.

Joe’s Gala, a butchery and food hall opened last week at the Ashdown Centre in Courtbrack, near Mary Immaculate College. This unit will be employing 20 people in the former XL store.

Another Gala opening on the Ballysimon Road next week will employ a further 15 people.

Speaking about the opening of the new stores in Limerick, Paul Cluskey, regional operations executive for Gala Retail Services said: “We are thrilled to have two new Gala stores opening in Limerick, creating many new jobs in the communities in which they are operating.”

He paid a welcome to Joe Giltinane of Joe’s Gala, and Iftakhar Rabbani of Gala Ballysimon Road who are the new franchisees of the two stores.

“We look forward to supporting their stores’ successes moving forward and wish them all the best,” Mr Cluskey added.

Limerick agricultural firm Samco will also be bringing 10 new jobs to Limerick after they invested €2m in an expansion plan.

The Adare based company, run by the Shine family, currently operates out of a 20,000sq ft facility in the village. The new extension will add 15,000 sq ft and due to be completed by 2019.

Already employing 35, Samco is known for manufacturing a machine which sows seed, sprays the soil and lays a thin layer of biodegradable plastic film over the seed bed.

“Samco will be offering jobs in all areas from production staff including extruder operator’s, clerical administration and international sales to name a few,” said Stephanie Shine on behalf of the company.

“We are currently employing 35 and look to increase that to 45. We strongly believe in having a highly skilled innovative workforce is key to success,” she added.
