Comedian and writer Sarah Millican is a long-time supporter of Samaritans, and on her current Bobby Dazzler tour, she is encouraging audiences to donate to the charity through post-show bucket collections.
Sarah just played a sell-out show in the Radisson Limerick on February 23, where she raised just under €1,350 for the Limerick & Tipperary Branch of Samaritans.
Every day, Samaritans volunteers take up to 10,000 calls from people in need. Their services are available day or night for anyone who is struggling to cope and needs to talk to someone without judgement or pressure. The Samaritans are not only for moments of crisis but are there to support you whenever you need them, too.
Sarah Millican availed of Samaritans services when she hit rock bottom after the break-up of her first marriage. She said, “I expected it to be like when you ring the bank with a bit of music and some options. But no, they answer super-quietly and they just let you talk. And they are there 24 hours a day, every single day of the year for anyone who needs them.
Fab crowd in Limerick tonight. Thanks for coming if you did. Back for Dublin shows in December (last few tickets available via my website). My ace support was @sallyannecomedy (podcast @louandsally). Thanks for donating to @samaritans too. pic.twitter.com/G7jc9exmCg

“I’ve always known what smashers my audiences are, and they’ve done a great job yet again. Thank you, lovely people, for supporting Samaritans, such an incredible charity.”
Catherine Slater, Branch Director of Samaritans Limerick & Tipperary said, “To Sarah and to every single person who donated after the fantastic show in Limerick on Wednesday, I want to say thank you, not just from Samaritans, but on behalf of future callers to us too.
“Life is tough, and anyone can feel overwhelmed. We listen and we don’t judge. Whether it’s the middle of the night or the middle of the afternoon, if people share difficult thoughts or feelings with us, it can change their lives – they realise that they can carry on. Donations help to keep our branches running and our volunteers ready for that next call.”
