Limerick’s Savoy Hotel welcomed the Liam MacCarthy Cup as a very special guest to give staff, guests, and the public the opportunity to have their photo taken with the legendary trophy.
The cup arrived at The Savoy Hotel on Thursday, October 1, with members of the Moran family, Tommy and Michael, in attendance, bringing with them two historical Limerick jerseys, one of which was sponsored by the Red Cow Moran Hotel.
The jerseys served as a reminder of the years when the Red Cow proudly sponsored the Limerick hurlers, Limerick pride being a major part of the family’s history and Athea roots.

The Liam MacCarthy Cup visit marked a proud moment for The Savoy Collection, welcoming the cup and celebrating the Moran family’s return to Limerick.
Joining the group for the day was Finance Manager, Dominic Punch, a former Limerick hurler who played at Croke Park himself. For Dominic and the Savoy Hotel team, the chance to see the cup up close and capture a photo was something special which the orgabisers described as “a day of pride, celebration and Limerick spirit”.
Speaking about the opportunity to host the Liam MacCarthy Cup at The Savoy Hotel, Jacinta Kahn, Sales and Marketing Manager, said, “Seeing the Liam MacCarthy Cup here at The Savoy is emotional because it brings together so much of what we’re proud of—our city, our hurling team and the Moran family’s connection to Limerick. and Dominic sharing in the moment as a former Limerick hurler, it feels personal. It’s a moment we’ll remember forever.”

Ownership of The Savoy Hotel was taken over in April by Moran Hospitality, a Dublin-based hospitality group with deep family roots in Limerick and the wider region. Their strong connection to the area and extensive experience in the sector positions them well to continue and build upon the success of The Savoy Collection.
Moran Hospitality is well-known locally as a result of Limerick man Tom Moran from Athea.
Tom died in March of 2023 aged 72. The businesses are now being run by his family. During his career, which spanned more than 50 years. He was synonymous with the landmark Red Cow Moran Hotel in Dublin, and a one-time sponsor of the Limerick GAA teams.
