Scoil Pól Secondary School, Kilfinane have been announced as the winners of the Bewley’s Big Coffee Morning for Hospice Competition.

Bewley’s and Together For Hospice proudly congratulate the Transition Year students of Scoil Pól Secondary School, Kilfinane, Co. Limerick who have been named winners of the Bewley’s Big Coffee Morning for Hospice competition, in collaboration with Chef Catherine Fulvio.

Schools across Ireland were encouraged to host coffee mornings to help raise vital funds for hospices and specialist palliative homecare groups nationwide.

As part of the initiative, students at Scoil Pól hosted a coffee morning in support of their local hospice, Milford Care Centre, Castletroy, Co. Limerick. Every school that hosted a coffee morning was entered into a draw to win two free places on Chef Catherine Fulvio’s online cookery course, along with a cash prize of €1,000 for the winning school.

Situated at the foot of the beautiful Ballyhoura Mountains in County Limerick, Scoil Pól is a voluntary co-educational secondary school with a proud and enduring heritage. Founded by the Sisters of St. Paul and now under the trusteeship of the Le Chéile Schools Trust, the school remains guided by the core values of compassion, inclusion, justice, and community. These values are not just spoken, they are lived daily in the relationships, learning, and spirit that define the school.

Anne Marie Hayes, Fundraising Manager at Milford Care Centre, said, “We are incredibly proud of the Transition Year students and staff at Scoil Pól for their enthusiasm and continued generosity.  Their support through Bewley’s Big Coffee Morning for Hospice makes a real difference, helping Milford Care Centre continue to provide compassionate care to patients and families when they need it most.”

Milford Care Centre is a voluntary, not-for-profit organisation and registered charity. It was first established by the Little Company of Mary Sisters in 1928 and now provides Specialist Palliative Care and Older Persons Services in the MidWest. Its Board of Directors and Management Team oversees its service delivery and fundraising activities. The centre is not just a Hospice in patient unit, it provides multiple services to our community, we provide Hospice at Home services, we have a Nursing Home, Day Care for both the Older Person and those who are Palliative, Bereavement Support for families, our staff also work in conjunction with other health care professionals in the community.

Together for Hospice, The National Hospice Movement, represents 24 Hospice and specialist palliative homecare providers supporting patients and their families across Ireland. Fundraised income is used by local hospice services to fund new buildings, refurbishment of existing buildings, staff, extra comforts for patients and their families, and innovative patient care projects nationwide. Funds raised through Together For Hospice campaigns support some of the core services funded by the HSE. Last year, Bewley’s Big Coffee Morning for Hospice raised over €2.2million in 2,500 events, helping to care for 19,000 patients and their families.

Richard is a presenter, producer, songwriter and actor. He was named the Limerick Person of the Year (2011) and won an online award at the Metro Éireann Media and Multicultural Awards (2011) for promoting multi-culturalism online. Richard says that the ilovelimerick.com concept is very much a community driven project that aims to document life in Limerick. So, that in 20 years time people can look back and remember the events that were making the headlines.
