Seamus Moran raises more than €24K for Milford Care Centre in memory of his daughter Meadhbh

In April, 2025, Seamus Moran set out on a 347km walk through the Scottish Highlands to raise funds for Milford Care Centre in memory of his daughter Meadhbh

On April 25, 2025, Seamus Moran set out on one of Britain’s most demanding long-distance walking routes, the 347km Cape Wrath Trail, bringing him through the Scottish Highlands, in memory of his daughter Meadhbh, who passed away in Milford Care Centre on March 11, 2023.

The journey represented both a personal challenge as well as a heartfelt tribute to his daughter, who had lived in Glasgow before returning home due to a life-limiting cancer diagnosis. Seamus took on the trail to raise funds for Milford Care Centre, where Meadhbh received the compassionate care the Limerick hospice is known for.

Upon making the donation of €24,427.31, Milford Care Centre shared a message of gratitude, saying, “On April 25, 2025, Seamus Moran began a 347km trek along the Cape Wrath Trail in memory of his daughter, Meadhbh, raising funds for MCC. Thank you, Seamus, for your inspiring journey.”

The journey held personal significance for Seamus, explaining on the iDonate fundraising page that Meadhbh had made a life in Scotland before receiving the life-changing news in September 2022.

Seamus writes, “Meadhbh had made her life in Scotland, before a life-limiting diagnosis of cancer, in September 2022, which changed all our lives. Since Meadhbh’s passing, one of her mentors who I knew well, expressed a wish last year that we do this long-distance walk together this year. But unfortunately, he died unexpectedly last September

“A few days after returning home from the funeral in Glasgow, I got an unexpected phone call from one of my walking friends enquiring would I be interested in joining them on this trail. I am convinced Meadhbh was arranging things from a distance.”

Explaining why he felt it was important to raise funds for Milford Care Centre, Seamus said, “During Meadhbh’s illness, Milford Care Centre, Castletroy, Limerick, provided her with the best possible palliative care in a professional but also kind and compassionate manner. This care, concern and compassion extended to our family and enabled us to prepare for Meadhbh’s sad passing in March 2023.”

Setting a target of €10,000, Seamus’ iDonate page received €20,556 in donations up to June 14, 2025, with more raised offline.
