Limerick All-Star Sean Finn launches Kilmallock to Kilimanjaro fundraiser in support of Carebright

All-Star Limerick Corner back Sean Finn launches “Kilmallock to Kilimanjaro” as Father and Daughter Duo Take on Mount Kilimanjaro to Support Local Elderly Care Services

4-time All Star Limerick Corner Back Sean Finn was on hand at CareBright in Bruff to support a determined father and daughter team, Mike and Alana Murphy, who are preparing to take on the journey of a lifetime as they climb Mount Kilimanjaro this September in support of a vital community organisation.

The Murphys will attempt to summit Africa’s highest peak this September all while raising essential funds to help provide care, companionship, and services for elderly members of the community in County Limerick.

CareBright plays a crucial role in delivering day care and support services to older people, helping them maintain independence and quality of life. It also serves as a warm and welcoming hub where elderly individuals can gather, connect, and combat social isolation. Mike’s own mother, Bridie, is battling dementia and benefits weekly from the fantastic services provided by CareBright.

Mike and Alanna have been training diligently for the arduous journey ahead and Sean has now joined their efforts and is asking for their local community and beyond to support their fundraising page. Alanna is no stranger to the famous mountain in Africa having summited Kilimanjaro previously in September 2024.  

Speaking at the launch, Sean Finn called on the community to get behind the cause and the father-daughter duo, “I am delighted to support Mike and Alanna on their remarkable efforts to fundraise for this vital service in our local community and wish them all the very best on their climb of Kilimanjaro, which is one of the most challenging endurance challenges in the world.

“I would encourage people to support, donate, get behind them and join one of their fun family walks in August too, if you can.”

Mike added, “This challenge is the biggest undertaking of my life. I am inspired by the people living with dementia, including my beloved mother Bridie and the daily battles they must overcome as well as the care and love provided by the incredible people at Carebright. To be undertaking the Kilimanjaro climb with my daughter Alanna will be a very special journey, and we look forward to raising as much funds as possible along the way. We are so grateful to all the sponsors and donors so far who have been so generous.”

“We’re doing this not just as a personal challenge, but to give back to an organisation that mean so much to our community,” said Mike. “Every donation, no matter how small, will make a real difference.”

Alana added, “We hope people will get behind us and help support the incredible work being done locally. Knowing we have that support will keep us going every step of the climb.”

The duo are encouraging individuals, businesses, and community groups to contribute to their campaign and help them reach their fundraising goal ahead of the climb. They are fundraising on their iDonate page (link below) and are also organising three 5k family fun walks in August. The first walk will kick off at Kilmallock GAA club on August 8th at 10am, then in Ballyagran Saturday August 15th 10am, and leaving from CareBright in Bruff August 22nd at 10am. Walk up and donation on the day welcome. Refreshments will be provided by The Yarn on August 22nd.
