The inaugural Sean Kelly Three Counties Cycle will take place on Sunday, September 18 in aid of Down Syndrome Limerick. There are 2 routes to choose from – a 50km and a 100km route – both of which take in the sights and sounds of Limerick, Clare and Tipperary.

Sean Kelly is a legend in the Irish cycling world as he has competed on the professional stage over a long and fruitful career. He also had an epic amateur career with many successes throughout Ireland.

Originally from Carrick on Suir, Tipperary, Sean has 198 professional victories and was ranked World Number One for 4 years. He is a dedicated supporter of Down Syndrome in Ireland, having rode the Tour De Munster for several years and now lending his support to the Three Counties Cycle, which Down Syndrome Limerick are extremely grateful for.

Down Syndrome Limerick is a local charity based in Castletroy that supports children and adults with Down Syndrome. It is run by parents on a voluntary basis. DSL provides essential therapies such as Speech and Language Therapy and Occupational Therapy, provides training to parents, teachers and SNAs, and runs adult education programmes that provide adults with Down syndrome with the skills required to gain meaningful employment. The majority of funding is earned through fundraisers, such as the Three Counties Cycle.

Ellen Tuffy, Chairperson of Down Syndrome Limerick said, “The Sean Kelly Three Counties Cycle is a wonderful event which sees people from all over Ireland and further afield come together to support our children. It is an important fundraiser for us.

“We are so lucky to have a wonderful committee of volunteers involved in helping us to organise this event. We are hoping that people will come along to cycle with us and for us. Thank you to everyone for their support – the organisers, sponsors, volunteers, and participants. We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable cycle”.

The Sean Kelly Three Counties Cycle is suitable for a wide range of abilities, from beginners to well-seasoned cyclists.

The cycle starts at Jetland Shopping Centre at 9 am. This year, the organisers have also included an “Easy Riders” start at 8:15am for those who would prefer a smaller crowd or a more leisurely pace for the 100km route, which aims to create a more inclusive event for all cycling abilities.

The entrance fee is €40 with a cycling license or €50 without one. 100% of the entrance fees will go directly to Down Syndrome Limerick, and cyclists will also receive a goodie bag.
