Doras Luimní Welcomes New CEO Seán McSweeney

Doras Luimní is very pleased to welcome Seán McSweeney to their team as Chief Executive Officer, following the departure of Leonie Kerins in 2018. The Limerick based charity is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental organisation working to support the rights of migrants Living in Ireland.

The aim of Doras Luimní is to promote and uphold the well-being of migrants through personal advocacy, integration development and collaborative advocacy campaigns at the local and national level.

Seán McSweeney, CEO of Doras, said: “I am delighted to be working for Doras and to have the opportunity to lead the organisation through the next chapter. I look forward to working with the Doras team, our clients and partners as we implement our new strategic plan and work towards our vision of a society where equality and respect for all human rights are realised.”

Hailing from TipperarySeán has a Masters in Social Justice and Public Policy and over 25 years of experience in the Community and Voluntary sectors.  His journey to Doras has involved working for a number of Overseas Development Organisations, followed by senior management positions in the social inclusion field, working with individuals and communities experiencing disadvantage and marginalisation.

John Lannon, Doras Chairperson, said: “We are very pleased to have Seán with us at DorasSeán brings a wealth of experience and wisdom to the organisation and we look forward to working with him into the future.”

The non-profit organisation provides free and confidential advice and legal information service on immigration-related issues including asylum applications; Direct Provision; Family Reunification; employment rights and reporting racism.

Each year, over 1,200 migrants access our service. We campaign at local, national and international level for change in policy and legislation relating to Protection & Direct Provision, Anti-Trafficking and Anti-Racism. Their vision for Ireland is a society where equality and respect for the human rights of migrants are social norms.

While the team are sad to see Leonie Kerins go, they wish Leonie the very best in her new role and thank her for the dedication she has shown Doras and their clients over the years.
