Mother and daughter Ruth Buckley and Orla Gaffney, from Cork, are celebrating after a double graduation from University of Limerick’s Faculty of Science and Engineering. Ruth, Chief Information Officer with Cork City and County Council, was conferred with a Doctorate of Engineering (Apprenticeship). Her daughter, Orla, who holds four national titles in rowing, was conferred with a BSc in Food Science and Nutrition. 11/04/25 REPRO FREE Award-winning Irish Novelist Paul Lynch has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate at University of Limerick. Paul Lynch, who was born in Limerick, won the hugely contested Booker Prize in 2023 for his novel ‘Prophet Song’. He was presented with an Honorary Doctorate of Letters by Acting UL President Professor Shane Kilcommins this Friday. Speaking at the ceremony in UL’s Plassey House Professor Kilcommins said: “Paul Lynch has made significant contributions to the academic community. He is a valued member of the Creative Writing teaching team at Maynooth University and has generously supported our Creative Writing program at University of Limerick since its inception 11 years ago.
