A new specially designed Sensory Room has been opened at Watch House Cross Community Library
The facility is specially designed to help individuals with sensory impairments, learning, and development difficulties and those on the Autism spectrum. Sensory rooms combine a range of stimuli to aid, develop and engage these senses.
Watch House Cross Community Library supports life-long learning by providing a space that encourages a love of reading and promotes literacy, culture and information access on the north side of Limerick City.
The addition of the sensory room adds a range of visual, tactile, auditory and vestibular stimuli which was previously lacking and are necessary for the inclusion of all.
The opening comes just months after the launch of Enable Ireland’s Multi-Sensory Room which happened in just June of this year.
Enable Ireland provides vital therapy and support services to children and adults with disabilities in Limerick city and county.
With the help of law firm, Keating Connolly Sellors, and their strong team of 13 staff who raised €15,000 by climbing Ireland’s three highest mountains, Carrauntoohill, Caher, and Beenkeragh, Enable Ireland were able to add this stimulative sensory room to their Mungret Service.
Enable Ireland’s Limerick adult services manager, said, “The sensory room is an all-inclusive dedicated space for service users with complex dual disabilities the means to provide relaxation and enjoyment; stimulate sensory input and facilitate communication and mobility for the service users. We are extremely grateful to the team at Sellors who delivered this wonderful new facility to the centre.”
The Sensory Room at White House Cross is available for use by parents, guardians and carers of children, teens, and adults with Autism, Sensory Impairments, Special Needs and Learning and Development Difficulties. It is also available for teachers and SNAs to use.
The Sensory Room can be booked for 30-minute sessions by contacting Watch House Cross Library at 061-55772
