Shane Dowling makes the push for Limerick Kids

Cliona’s Foundation, in the company of Limerick Hurler Shane Dowling and Live 95, launched the Charity’s 12th Annual Fundraising Cycle. This year, Cliona’s Foundation is one of the beneficiaries of the Live 95 Helping Limerick Children campaign together with CARI and the Children’s Grief Centre. The cycle will take place this year on Saturday, August 31 from Bruff Rugby Club, just 25km from Limerick city.

The proceeds from this year’s cycle will go to the Helping Limerick Children Campaign so a special call is being made to make a huge effort to take part in a very memorable day, remembering and helping some exceptional children.

Limerick Hurler Shane Dowling was delighted to launch the cycle as he has recently come on board as an Ambassador for Cliona’s Foundation, saying, “I really admire the work of Cliona’s Foundation and the much-needed support they provide to families. I am familiar with the fantastic services provided by CARI and the Children’s Grief Centre to children and their families at a very vulnerable time in their lives so I would urge people to get on their bikes and make a special effort that will make a big difference.”

“I think it is important to give back in any way you can if possible and I would encourage people to dust down their bikes and get all the family out cycling to help support Limerick Children.  Getting on the bike for an hour is only a small gesture but if a few hundred more did the same it would make a big difference to a lot of families and children,” he added.

It is a fantastic family day out with something for all ages and all levels of fitness and ability.

There is the 10km for kiddies and beginners, a 40km family/leisure cycle and the 90km Cliona’s Challenge – the event caters for cyclists of all levels of ability.

On finishing the cycle participants can look forward to plenty of food from the famous BBQ, while the kids will be kept entertained with the bouncy castle and more.

Registration fee is €20 for Adult Cycling Ireland members, €25 for non-members, €5  for children and a very special family rate of €30.

Cliona’s Foundation provides financial assistance to children with life-limiting conditions. Founded in 2007 by Brendan and Terry Ring, in memory of their daughter Cliona who died as a result of an inoperable brain tumour, Cliona’s Foundation has raised in excess of €1.7 m, already helping more than 650 families.   Cliona’s Foundation receives no State support and relies on the generosity of the public to ensure its continuity.
