5k charity walk in memory of Shane Liston to support Milford Hospice
A Limerick family has organised a 5k charity walk in memory of their son, brother, and uncle, Shane Liston, to raise funds for Milford Hospice

A 5k charity walk is set to take place in Ardagh, County Limerick, on June 14, in honour of Shane Liston, as his family hopes to raise funds “to give back to the incredible team” at Milford Care Centre, who supported him.
Sharing their story on Go Fund Me, his sister, Ciara Liston, said, “Last year we lost our strong, brave and amazing son and brother, Shane, to cancer. It has been an incredibly difficult year, and we miss him so much every single day. Shane’s courage and kindness touched everyone around him, and his memory continues to inspire us.”
Shane was in the care of the staff at Milford Hospice, and his family has organised the charity event in his honour and to help support the work carried out by Milford.
Ciara writes, “We are forever grateful for the care and support Shane received from Milford Hospice and for the compassion shown to us as a family during this difficult time. To honour Shane, and to give back to the incredible team that supported him, we are organising a 5k charity walk on June 14th from Ardagh Community Centre at 12.30 pm.”
Inviting the public to take part, the family are grateful for all of the support so far, with the fundraiser having almost reached its €6,000 target as of April 28, 2026.
With further details of the event, the family say it will help raise much-needed funds as well as celebrate Shane’s life. They said, “We would be so grateful for any donations to this cause and for your company on the day to help us complete the walk. Afterwards, there will be food, music and stories at the community centre, where we can celebrate Shane’s life, share our memories and remember the joy he brought to all of us.
“Every step we take will be for Shane — and for the remarkable care Milford Hospice provides. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping us honour him.”
