Shannon Airport Fashion On the Runway Show is putting a very stylish best foot forward on Tuesday December 6 when some of the region’s top fashion houses will present their best wares for the upcoming Christmas season at the airport.

In a throw-back to the famous fashion shows of yesteryear at Shannon, the ‘Fashion on the Runway’ event will be the region’s ultimate and biggest Christmas sartorial shopping guide for both sexes, with items from leading houses from Clare, Limerick and Tipperary all set for the runway. Proceeds from the event will go to the airport’s designated charities.

Models – led by one of the region’s most stylish and one of its best known ladies of the sky, Aer Lingus’ Liz Mangan and the relentless force that is Munster and Ireland flanker Tommy O’Donnell – will give the large attendance the perfect solution to their Christmas shopping conundrums.

Special guest and presenter on the night will be one of Ireland’s best loved fashion experts, Shannon native, TV presenter, journalist and founder/editor of Exquisite.ie Aisling O’Loughlin.

Shannon is, of course, no stranger to fashion; as far back as the late 1950’s it was hosting regular fashion shows for American tour groups, showcasing and promoting the very best of home-grown Irish styles, from Donegal tweeds to the full Aran range.

The ‘Fashion on the Runway’ event will also feature many home-grown fashions in addition to leading international brands available at stores across the region.

Looking ahead to the event, Declan Smyth, Chairman of the Shannon Group Charity Committee said: “Shannon will be a novel but perfect location for the event. You have airport runways and fashion runways so why not. There’s always great style at Shannon and, indeed, the aviation industry generally so it’s a perfect fit. There won’t be a show as big or as good as it between now and Christmas across the region.

“We will have some of the best boutiques and menswear outlets across here on the night and the timing is perfect coming up to Christmas. More items are purchased in the run up to Christmas than any other time of year so a lot of people will come looking for inspiration and they will certainly get plenty of that.”

The Fashion Show is being styled by Willow Boutique of Ennis, Lilly’s Boutique of Ennis, Pamela Scott, of Limerick, Sash of Shannon, Joanne’s of Ballina/Killaloe, Sinead’s of Annacotty, Nozomi Shoe Boutique of Ennis, Blue Velvet of Limerick No. 15 of Limerick and award winning Irish Fashion Designer Marie Murphy Cooney, of Nenagh. Men’s Fashions will be by Club Dangan of Ennis and Children’s Fashions by A Bit of a Do of Shannon.

A number of top accessory operators and others will also be present on the night with stands, selling their top Christmas items and offers, including Gleeson Goldsmith, Stella and Dot, Brian Maloney Pottery, Desert Diamonds, Grettals Petals Florist, Café Fergus Hillary’s Pharmacy No. 15 and the South Court Hotel.

There’s a fantastic prize on the night of return flights to Stockholm on the recently announced SAS flight operating from Shannon in 2017, while there will also be a special draw for a range of other attractive prizes, including an overnight stay and breakfast at the 5-star Trump International Golf Links & Hotel Doonbeg. There will also be a best dressed lady and gentleman prize – kindly sponsored by Gleeson Goldsmith, Ballycasey, Shannon – on the night.

Shannon Airport Operations Director Niall Maloney, who will turn fashion model for the event, said: “It should be great fun but modelling novices like myself will probably treat it less like a fashion runway and more like an airport one – the quicker we get up and away the better,” he joked.

“There’s a very meaningful side to it in that the proceeds from the night will go towards our designated charities for 2016, Galway’s Ábalta Special School for children with autism and complex needs and the Irish Children’s Arthritis Network (iCAN). Christmas is a really great time to support these charities and we are delighted that the airport community has come together and really got behind this worthwhile event, we’re really looking forward to the night.”
