The launch of the 2018 Shannon International Leasing Conference (SILC) was held at King John’s Castle on Thursday evening in Limerick. Atlantic Aviation Group were the main sponsors on the night and central to the launch was the announcement that Limerick Institute of Technology would be hosting the conference on November 7, 2018. Now in its third year, the Shannon Aviation Conference 2018 was initiated by twenty Shannon based aviation service providers, who combined forces to bring attention to the benefits that the Mid West can offer the industry, in terms of commercial cost benefits and international networking opportunities. Technical executives and engineers from the aviation leasing industry will attend the daylong conference in November.

The first step in creating an industry-driven initiative was taken in 2016 with the inaugural Conference. Fifteen local aviation companies joined forces to create this unique event. The Shannon Aviation Conference 2018 was created to showcase the location and develop Shannon as the hub for technical services to support Ireland’s aircraft leasing industry.

Last year at the second annual Shannon International Leasing Conference at the University of Limerick concluded with an awe-inspiring presentation from renowned Canadian astronaut, Commander Chris Hadfield.

The audience of locally-based aviation sector specialists, technical strategists, and engineers from the global aviation industry were held spellbound as he described his experiences on board the International Space Station.

Conference organizer, Samantha Harding, summed up the mood of the delegates and described Colonel Hadfield’s presentation as “engaging and informative”.

The launch on Thursday night also highlighted the importance of providing and retaining human resources within the area. Conference organizer, Samantha Harding said, “The collaboration between LIT and SILC this year is significant, in terms of provision of human capital to the industry, and the clear advantages to living and working within the Mid-West region.” Business development manager of IASC, John Drysdale said, “SILC creates a forum for the industry to engage with service providers, leasing companies, airlines and manufacturers, and with our partnership this year with Limerick Institute of Technology, we hope to highlight the significant opportunities that the region can offer in terms of skilled resources.”
