Shannon Group 5K set to raise funds for charity
Shannon Group, in conjunction with Shannon Chamber, is encouraging people throughout the Shannon region to come out in force to partake in a Charity 5k run/walk to raise funds for Shannon Group’s Charity Partners, Irish Cancer Society and Limerick Suicide Watch.
Organised in conjunction with Shannon Chamber, with the support of Ei Electronics and a number of Shannon businesses, the 5k will take place in Shannon Free Zone, Airport Avenue, Shannon at 7 pm on Thursday, 5 September.
Proceeds from this event, via participants’ entry fees, will go directly to the Shannon Group Charity Partners and will add greatly to the €278,000 raised by the Group’s staff for a range of deserving charities since the Group was established five years ago.
Registration for the Shannon Group Charity 5K is now open and runners, walkers, joggers or even skippers are asked to lace up and take part in what promises to be a fun evening.
Shannon Group’s Acting CEO, Mary Considine said: “The commitment shown by our staff to fundraise for worthy causes in our community since 2014 has been fantastic. Through a range of events that require time, commitment, and energy, we are delighted to be raising money this year for two worthy charities; The Irish Cancer Society and Limerick Suicide Watch. This year’s charity 5k at Shannon Free Zone will add a new dimension to their fundraising efforts, and we would encourage as many people as possible to get on their runners/tackies for what we know will be a very special event.”
Shannon Chamber CEO Helen Downes said: “This is a tremendous demonstration of corporate social responsibility in action and we applaud Shannon Group staff for their initiative in organising an event of this nature. Not only will it benefit the Group’s charity partners but it will also promote health and wellbeing among the corporate sector, which is something we, as a Chamber, are keen to promote. We are encouraging our members to participate.”
The event is open to all those working in the region to take part and with a flat and straight course, it is ideal for both first-timers and seasoned runners looking to set a personal best. A number of prizes will be provided on the day by Shannon Airport and Shannon Heritage, including prizes going to the fastest female, the fastest male and the fastest team of five.
The Shannon Group staff charity organising committee are posting a special ‘Desk to 5K’ social media programme to help participants get ready for the event.
