Majorly popular tourist destination spots King John’s Castle and Bunratty Castle are to be taken over by the local County Council.

This new initiative will include the ownership of King Johns being reverted to Limerick City and County Council with the ownership of Bunratty Castle being transferred to Clare County Council.

This decision regarding the County Council and major historic sites comes from Shannon Heritage Group in their effort to increase tourism in the local area and to also boost the potential of these truly beloved historic sites.

Shannon Group is also making a conscious effort to get usual flights back up and running in Shannon Airport. This is in a bid to get national and international tourism back to its usual state within the local area.

Other popular destinations that will be taken over by local County Councils in this new initiative will include Knappogue and Dunguaie Castles the Cliffs of Moher Experience and the Craggaunowen visitor centre.

Shannon Heritage Group thrives to improve conditions within the Limerick and Clare areas. According to the group, “We are a unique family of expert businesses growing aviation, property and tourism. Our vision is to reach further to build a thriving connected place for the benefit of the region, our people and the country.”

Not only this but in line with the recent news, local historian and former Mary Immaculate College Professor Dr Liam Irwin hopes that the castle can revert back to its original name.

According to Liam Irwin, up to the 19th century, the castle was referred to as ‘Limerick Castle’ and given the current circumstances, he feels that this change would be most appropriate to take place, as it is not entirely historically correct.

With this amazing new initiative, it is hoped that the tourist industry will return to its normal pace within the local area and that positive can soon take place.
