The prestigious Embassy of Ireland in London was the venue for a recent business tourism networking event – organized by Tourism Ireland and Fáilte Ireland – which was attended by about 50 senior representatives of international associations in Britain.

Representatives of the various Irish convention bureaux – including the Shannon Region Conference & Sports Bureau – told guests all about our world-class conference facilities and what makes the Mid-West and Ireland such a special destination. Business tourism is the most lucrative form of tourism, with associations regularly holding conferences for thousands of delegates in different venues around the world, offering significant economic benefits to the host country.

David Boyce, Tourism Ireland’s Deputy Head of Great Britain, said: “Our thanks to Ambassador Mulhall for hosting this important event in the Irish Embassy, which was an excellent opportunity to showcase the Mid-West and Ireland to key influencers, in a bid to win a greater share of their lucrative business for Ireland. We were delighted so many representatives of these international associations took the time to attend, to hear about our superb conference facilities and what makes the island of Ireland unique as a business destination.

Corporate meetings and association conferences have been the focus of Tourism Ireland’s business tourism promotions in Britain during 2016.

‘Meet in Ireland’ is the official MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and events) brand for the island of Ireland. It comprises three tourism authorities – Fáilte Ireland, Tourism Ireland and Tourism Northern Ireland – who work in partnership to promote the island of Ireland as a leading conference and meeting destination.
