Let Get Going Get Rowing show you how to row on the water this summer! Their Limerick camps will be held at Shannon Rowing Club in Annacotty. Rowers must be aged 12-16 and the cost is €110 per participant.

Shannon Rowing Club will be running three Rowing Camps for Boys and Girls age 12 to 16 on June 24 – 28, or July 1 – 5, July 22 – 26 and July 29 – August 2, 2024 at Annacotty. They will run from 10am to 1pm each day from Monday to Thursday. These camps will be suitable for those with absolutely no rowing experience or those within their first year of starting rowing. 

Rowing is a fantastic sport for so many reasons: It takes a totally different skill set than land-based sports, there’s a different team dynamic, you’re out in the fresh air and beautiful surroundings, and you can’t even learn it until you’re in your early teens. So you’ll be on the water with other total beginners, just like you!

These on-the-water rowing camps are designed to introduce young people to all aspects of the sport, both on the water and off.  Our camp incorporates the innovative Olympic Values Education course developed by World Rowing and Youth Sports Trust International. And they’re tons of fun.

Shannon Rowing Club is a relatively small club, where everybody gets a chance to train and compete. It is also the oldest rowing club in Limerick, with a beautiful Edwardian Clubhouse on Sarsfield Bridge, providing the facilities for indoor training right in the city centre. They do their water training on a calm stretch of the Shannon in Annacotty which has the advantage of not being tidal. This means they can row at regular hours winter and summer, with no 5am starts on cold winter mornings. Shannon has had great success over the years and so far this year have had multiple wins with almost all of their crews.

Lifelong bonds and friendships are formed through training and competing together among club members and indeed within the rowing community at large. Many of their rowers have gone on to row for their colleges and for Ireland. 

Shannon Rowing Club, based on Sarsfield Bridge, Limerick, is the oldest rowing Club in Limerick City. Founded in 1866 by Sir Peter Tait, the club sits on a manmade island with a backdrop of King Johns Castle, St Mary’s Cathedral and the magnificent Shannon River.

At their Sarsfield Bridge location, they offer a mid-week gym, bike, and rowing machine work in their fully equipped gymnasium.

On weekends their activities move to Annacotty to avail of a fantastic stretch of water. Annacotty is ideal for rowing: it is sheltered and non-tidal, enabling weekend training at a set time while providing greater safety for their rowers.
