The Shaykh will be speaking at the Limerick Civic Trust’s Autumn Lecture Series on Thursday 21st September at St Mary’s Cathedral.

His talk, ’Immigration and Integration in Ireland, understanding a Global Phenomenon’, will be moderated by Professor John O’Brennan who spoke at last year’s Lecture Series.

Fresh from the Kennedy Summer School, where he spoke with Holocaust survivor Tomi Reichental, the Shaykh will talk about how we as a society can prevent radicalisation among Irish Muslims through integration and understanding.

David O’Brien, CEO of Limerick Civic Trust, said “This talk is very timely.  Just last Friday London had another terrorist attack. On the same day, the State announced it has agreed to take extra refugees in 2018. It is important that we are informed on how we can contribute to a peaceful society and prevent the spread of extremism and hate.”

Organised in conjunction with UL’s Kemmy Business School and the support of LIT and Limerick Council, the six-part series of public lectures will examine many topical issues like the impact of Brexit, Trumpism, immigration, integration in multi-cultural societies, censorship and lots more.

Other speakers in the series include; former head of HSBC, Stephen Green, Jodie Ginsburg, CEO of Index on Censorship, Irish Times columnist Simon Carswell, international architect Ian Ritchie and international property developer Roger Madelin.

The lectures will run on Thursday evenings from September 14 to October 19 in St. Mary’s Cathedral. Lectures start at 8 pm and admission is €12 or concessions €8 per lecture. Tickets are available at www.limerickcivictrust.ie/events or www.eventbrite.ie. Tickets are also available from The Limerick Civic Trust offices in the Bishop’s Palace, Church Street or on the door on each of the nights.

Proceeds from the series will be used by the Limerick Civic Trust for the restoration of St. Munchin’s Church in the heart of King’s Island.
