Limerick sisters Norrie and Mary Sheehan have raised more than €3,000 for UHL Oncology Services with a head shave fundraiser

Limerick sisters, Norrie and Mary Sheehan, have raised more than €3,000 for University Hospital Limerick’s Oncology Services through a fundraising head shave.
The sisters, originally from Mountcollins, Norrie, now residing in Killarney and Mary in The Carribean, were supported by their family members at a fundraising evening at the family home in Knockulcare, Mountcollins, that will see thousands of Euros going to support the local services.
Aisling, Norrie’s daughter, told I Love Limerick, “Norrie and Mary were joined by members of our family as we all looked on in awe at them both. Their eldest sister, Julia, had the job of the steady hand and hairdresser.
“Mary is based in the Turks and Caicos Islands in the Caribbean. When she learned mom was doing a headshave and she knew she would be home at the same time, she quickly jumped on board.”
The pair are hoping to reach their €5,000 target, having reached more than €3,800 so far on their GoFundMe page, with donations coming through the fundraising website and offline.
Aisling noted fundraising is a long tradition within the family, saying Norrie and sister, Joan, have spent many years raising funds for charities.

She said, “They are always looking at ways to help benefit others. They are always so humble and never look for anything in return. They have raised thousands of euros down through the years, and many charities and worthy causes have benefited. All of this isn’t possible without the support of their/our family. There are 14 siblings in total.”
Showing their gratitude, the funraisers shared a message on their page, saying, “We are overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone near and far who has donated, shared our fundraiser, and encouraged us throughout this journey. Your support means more than words can express and is helping us make a real difference for this important cause.
“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with the Sheehan Sisters – Mary and Norrie – as they Braved the Shave, and to Julia for making the moment so special.”
The fundraiser was organised to support the oncology team at University Hospital Limerick and the care they provide to patients and families. As they aim for their €5,000 target, the fundraiser is still open with the sisters saying, “If you haven’t had a chance to donate yet, there’s still time. Every donation, no matter the size.”
