Evening Song will showcase new songs and new collaborations, particularly the work of contemporary Irish artists. The programme will also highlight women composers from Renaissance times through to today, who have often been forgotten by history.

The songs featured will range from light and wry to lovestruck to anguished to heartwarming, and listeners can tune in at home or online from anywhere in the world as part of their Sunday evening.

Speaking about Evening Song, Shirley said: “RTÉ lyric fm plays an important part in continuously highlighting the musicians, the orchestras, and composers who are essential to the Irish music scene.

“I hope listeners will find themselves transported, memories triggered, new favourites discovered as you make the dinner, take a walk, or relax on an early Sunday evening. These songs could take you anywhere.”

Producer Eoin O Kelly said, “Song plays a fundamental role in all our lives, helping us to connect with one another and to express our emotions during life’s significant occasions. Shirley has truly lived a life in song, and it’s a pleasure to be able to bring her musical choices to a wider audience.”
