The Siege Legacy Lives on with Siege of Limerick 2020
The Siege of Limerick is a tournament run by University of Limerick students, both present and past with everyone playing a role in the tournament from start to finish, for the love and development of the sport. The Siege of Limerick 2020 takes place on Saturday and Sunday, March 7 and 8 on the University of Limerick’s 4G Pitches, Cappavilla.
Ultimate Frisbee is one of the fastest-growing outdoor men’s and women’s team sports around the world. Limerick hosts Ireland’s largest outdoor Ultimate Frisbee tournament as well as one of the largest tournaments in Europe every March called ‘The Siege of Limerick’.
Popularity in Ultimate Frisbee has been increasing following the success of the Irish Senior Women’s Ultimate Frisbee team becoming the first-ever Irish team to win Gold Medals at European Level.
With this success, as well as getting notoriety from President Michael D. Higgins, it only got us more excited for what is yet to come. Each year, the tournament welcomes 32 teams from Ireland, Britain and across Europe to take part in the weekend of fun.
Traditionally, The Siege would facilitate a 10 Team Women’s Division and a 22 Team Men’s Division. This year, for the first time in the history of The Siege and in Irish Ultimate alike, we are hosting a 50:50 tournament split facilitating a 16 Team Women’s Division and a 16 Team Men’s Division.
With the likes of 20×20, Failte Ireland, the Bank of Ireland, Just Eat, Red Bull and Limerick’s Finest Ishka Water sponsoring, spectators can expect to see some of the finest displays of Ultimate to be showcased across the weekend. Come along and see for yourself on Saturday and Sunday, March 7 & 8!
