It provides free tuition in singing, song writing, violin and cello to 300 children on weekly basis throughout Limerick city. The purpose is to develop not only musical skills, but key life skills using music as a tool for tangible social change. It was established in 2008 by the Irish Chamber Orchestra as a Community Engagement Programme. The choir involves two local schools Le Cheile National School and St Mary’s National School. This initiative has attracted a lot of attention locally and nationally due to the success it has achieved. It tackles issues such as inclusion, equality of access and provision, it also highlights the benefits a long term project has on children. The project has also helped unite communities and build local pride in the area.
The Irish Chamber Orchestra is a renowned world class orchestra based in Limerick. Founded in Dublin 1963 by Janos Furst. It was re-branded as the New Irish Chamber Orchestra in 1970. The Orchestra has had much success at home and across the world, touring across Eurpoe, Australia, South Korea, China and America.
