Dance Limerick and the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at the University of Limerick have announced that their incoming Associate Artist for 2021/2022 will be Siobhan Ni Dhuinnin.

Siobhán is a dance artist based in Cork. Her primary focus is on place-based and site-specific work manifesting in film and live performance. She seeks to question how the human body engages with the Earth in a way that gives agency to both.

“I’m delighted to be Associate Artist with Dance Limerick and the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at the University of Limerick. Both Dance Limerick and the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance have contributed significantly to my development as an artist throughout the years. I look forward to continuing to build my relationships with them and the people they engage with,” she said.

As Associate Artist, Siobhán will be providing active engagement with Dance Limerick’s events and programmes, as well as working with MA students in researching and testing ideas.

Siobhán enjoys collaborative and multi-disciplinary work, and has created alongside poets, actors, singers, geologists, boat-builders and musicians.

Siobhán trained at the Northern School of Contemporary dance in the UK before completing a Masters in Contemporary dance Performance at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance in 2012.

She has performed with John Jasperse and Liz Roche (Step Up Dance Programme), Junk Ensemble, Laura Murphy and many more. She was also a member of Croí Glan Integrated Dance Company, performing works by Fearghus Ó Conchúir and David Bolger.

She has previous experience as being the Dance Artist in Residence at Ionad Cultúrtha in Baile Mhúirne in Cork from 2018 to 2020, as well as being a recipient of the Arts Council’s Next Generation Award in 2018.

Her work has been shown at the Echo Echo Festival of dance and Movement, What Next Festival, Tipperary Dance Platform, and many more.

She will be hosting a Coffee Morning on Thursday, October 21 from 11am to 12pm.

Here, she will be meeting and reconnecting with local dance artists, as well as introducing the topic, “What moves you to dance?” for discussion, which relates to the research she will be undertaking as part of her time at Dance Limerick.

This free coffee morning will be taking place at the Dance Limerick Performance Space at St Johns Church, Johns Square.
