Sixteen a short film created by Transition Year Students
Sixteen a short film created by Transition Year Students.
Limerick Youth Theatre (LYT) special Transition Year Film (TYF) project designed to provide a rich and challenging work experience module for Transition Year students ran this year with 18 TY students from the city and county participating over the course of three weeks. This year’s talented young filmmakers wrote, performed and directed their own film ‘Sixteen’ under the direction of Gearoid o’hAllmhuráin and Jared Nadin from Cannibals not Canadians Theatre Company and filming from Dominik Kosicki from Red Paw Media.
Angie Smalis, Artistic Director of Limerick Youth Theatre said; ‘The Transition Year Film project is a great opportunity for students in transition year to participate in a work experience programme that focuses on all aspects of making and delivering a short film. This year, we engaged Artistic Director, Gearoid o’hAllmhuráin and Jared Nadin from Cannibals not Canadians Theatre Company to guide and mentor 18 students from different schools around Limerick city and beyond. Martin Shannon from LYT helped with storyboards and prop-making and Kate Hodmon from LYT took the headshots. Since all 18 students were encouraged to take a hands on approach, they all now have the tools to call themselves filmmakers. They can proudly say they know how to audition, write a script, make a story board, make props, gather costumes, act, direct, edit scenes and write a biographic note about themselves. I am very proud of everyone involved and looking forward to sharing this fantastic achievement with the general public at Odeon Cinema, Castletroy where the Sixteen will be screened and where we will enjoy the full cinematic experience of their creative endeavours.’Gearoid o’hAllmhuráin and Jared Nadin commented; ‘We were delighted to be asked to facilitate this year’s TY project where we made a short film with 18 Transition Year students. Gearoid o’hAllmhuráin and Jared Nadin commented; ‘We were delighted to be asked to facilitate this year’s TY project where we made a short film with 18 Transition Year students. It was an intensive three week project working on all aspects of film making; from script writing, story boarding, blocking, to prop making and screen acting. The students were a joy to work with each having very different interests and wanting to gain different things from the project. They each gave everything of themselves to the process and fully immersed themselves in the project. Their drive and willingness to help each other is a credit to themselves.
From a direction and facilitation point of view, we could not have asked for any more from the project. Three weeks is very short time for professional filmmakers to create a short film, but these creative students accomplished it all. It has been fantastically rewarding for us and we hope for them too.’
Sixteen will be screened on Monday 7 March 2016 at the Odeon Cinema, Castletroy at 7.00pm. For bookings contact [email protected].
