Sleep out 2018 will be joined by the All Ireland hurlers.
All Ireland hurlers are all set for the annual Sleep Out in aid of Novas
All Ireland hurlers William O’Donoghue and Seamus Hickey will be among the many sleeping out in Limerick for the NOVAS annual sleep out 2018.
Limerick residents will camp outside Brown Thomas on O’Connell Street for the night on Friday, December 21 to celebrate their third year of this annual fundraising event. The sleep out 2018 event helps supply Novas with the funds needed to provide services for the homeless.
The sleep out 2018 will start at 7 pm, with the duo presenting the Liam McCarthy cup. Sinead O’Brien will also contribute to the festive spirit with Christmas Carols.
Una Burns, Head of Policy and Communications deeply appreciated all who came out in aid of Novas. “The response has been absolutely fantastic. We’ve been overwhelmed by the support from people on social media and people who have gotten in contact with us at the office, and businesses and organisations that have expressed interest and want to do something, so we’re extremely grateful to them,” Ms. Burns added. Organisers expect a similar turnout this year as well.
The All Ireland champions spoke to The Limerick Leader about the event, Seamus said: “As a gesture of solidarity with the numerous individuals and families who through no fault of their own have fallen victim to homelessness. I hope to raise funds for Novas’s excellent work and services for some of the most vulnerable people in our society.”
It’s not the first time that William has taken part in a ‘sleep out’ to fundraise for the homelessness. Last Christmas the hurler was one of 400 sports Stars who took part in a sleep-out under the umbrella of ‘Gaelic Voices for Change’. William was joined by Ahane camogie star Niamh Mulcahy and former Limerick senior hurling captain Gavin O’Mahony at the event, last year.
