Sheila Deegan, Arts Officer with Limerick City and County Council said: “The money will be used to promote the musical heritage of Sliabh Luachra and is part of a broader move to preserve musical artefacts and support cultural tourism in the region.”

The funding is being made available under the Arts Council’s ‘Invitation to Collaboration’ scheme.  It aims to identify new ways of bringing the arts to the doorstep of people across Ireland and to highlight the role of the arts in building sustainable, cohesive communities.

Director of the Arts Council, Orlaith McBride, said: “This will benefit arts organisations, artists and the people in counties across Ireland.  The purpose of this scheme is to enable greater collaboration between arts offices around the country.  As a public service organisation, we must work better at utilising the rich expertise that exists in these offices, and funding projects with a regional focus is an excellent way to do just that.”

The Sliabh Luachra Music Trail is a joint initiative involving the Arts Offices of Cork and Kerry County Councils.  Among the objectives include a range of measures that aim to promote and preserve the region’s unique musical heritage. The Sliabh Luachra Music Trail works with local Arts organisations to programme concerts, sessions, talks, workshops and master classes.
