Students Creativity Awarded at the Smarter Travel Student Multimedia Awards 2017

Students from third level colleges were awarded in the Belltable Theatre on Wednesday, for creating fantastic videos, animations, audio pieces, radio ads and poster illustrations for the National Transport Authority’s Smarter Travel Student Multimedia Awards 2017. The entries produced by studentsencourage other students to consider choosing ‘smarter’ modes of transport; particularly walking, cycling, public transport and car sharing. 

The awards are supported by colleges nationally and in particular in Limerick by Limerick Smarter Travel.

The overall winners in the video/animation category of the Smarter Travel Student Multimedia Awards 2017 were Donal Kearns, PatrykLewandowski and Carmen Vitour from the University of Limerick, Keith Walsh from Limerick Institute of Technology won the poster/illustration category and the audio category winners were James Connolly, Graham Moloney and Ray Mooney, also from Limerick Institute of Technology. 2nd and 3rd place winners came from the University of Limerick, Limerick Institute of Technology and Limerick College of Further Education.

“We are delighted with the quality and variety of entries, and our judges were equally impressed. The students’ multimedia entries were both entertaining, and captured the positive aspects of making smart transport choices for the journey to college.  Anne Graham, Chief Executive Officer, National Transport Authority. 

One of the judges, Will Goodbody, Science & Technology Correspondent, RTÉ was very impressed with the overall standard and quality of the entries. Collectively, they showed creative conceptual thinking, clever writing and skilled technical execution”. 

We had an amazing experience, met some inspiring people in our journey to promote smarter travel. We had great fun and would definitely recommend other students to participate in this competition”. Winners, Donal Kearns Patryk Lewandowski and Carmen Vitour.

I’m delighted our Music Technology and Production students have had such success in the Smarter Travel Multimedia awards. We are always eager for opportunities to collaborate on industry-related projects with companies and institutions beyond LIT and this competition was a great fit with our second-year syllabus. Roisin Crowley, Limerick Institute of Technology. 

The Smarter Travel Campus Multimedia Awards are organised by the National Transport Authority. This was the third year of the Multimedia awards. It was open to third level institutions in Ireland who are partners of the Smarter Travel Campus programme.

Richard is a presenter, producer, songwriter and actor. He was named the Limerick Person of the Year (2011) and won an online award at the Metro Éireann Media and Multicultural Awards (2011) for promoting multi-culturalism online.
