Limerick Lawn Tennis Club will host the South of Ireland Open from Saturday, June 18 until Saturday, June 25.
Established in 1877, Limerick Lawn Tennis is host to the world’s second-oldest surviving tennis tournament after Wimbledon, previously known as the “Limerick Cup.”
The first-ever South of Ireland Championships was historic, featuring not only a men’s singles and doubles competition but also a women’s singles and doubles competition, making the championship the oldest ladies’ event in Britain and Ireland to this day.
The tennis club is still as strong as ever, boasting 12 synthetic grass courts as well as 3 squash courts, a gym, sauna, and modern changing facilities.
Entry for the tournament opened on Friday, June 3rd with the closing deadline on Wednesday, June 15 at 5:00.
The tournament will begin on Saturday, June 18 and will feature 30 events over the course of the week.
The events are men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles. Competitors may enter a maximum of three events in the tournament, one of which must be singles.
The tournament will take place on the club’s synthetic courts and will be sanctioned and governed by the rules of Tennis Ireland.
The finals will take place on Saturday, June 25 and a prize presentation will take place once the finalists have secured their place.
During the week there will be catering, BBQ and bar service available to all those participating in the tournament.
The club is strictly accepting card payments for the tournament through PayPal. The tournament is kindly sponsored by Helga Hartmann Opticians.
Limerick Lawn Tennis club looks forward to welcoming all competitors and spectators to the club and would ask for everyone’s cooperation with Covid Regulations to ensure a safe and successful event.
