Southill Area Centre

Southill Area Centre opened in September 2008 to offer the local community sporting, social and support/advocacy services in a purpose built facility in the heart of the community. The centre is a vibrant focus for a range of activities, including bingo, aerobics, circuit training, gardening, arts, crafts and support services. The centre caters for all ages, from the Southill Family Resource Centre Magical Playground Crèche, Southill Afterschools Club right through to the annual Tea Dances for the Young at Heart.

A range of other locally based frontline service providers work from the centre, including Southill Community Action Centre, Irish Traveller Movement, O’Malley Keyes Community Estate Office, Rural Community Care Network and the Southill Club2gether community work team. The centre offers a supportive work environment for all services and is a safe space for people to access the supports they may need.

The hub of Southill Area Centre is The Hill Café, a bright dining venue with a focus of affordable healthy food. The café has a wide range of menu options, with dinners from €4.95 and also provides outside catering. The café is a great spot for catching up with friends or meeting colleagues and there is always a welcoming atmosphere.

Southill Area Centre also houses one of 7 Community Food Initiatives in Ireland. With the partner project garden in St. Munchins, Southill Area Centre promotes healthy eating though locally available and locally grown food and has recently featured on RTE’s Eat to the Ground programme.

With 15 people employed in the centre and up to an additional 30 people working with their services based there, Southill Area Centre is a leading centre of employment in the community. There are a range of volunteering opportunities for those interested in developing new skills or helping out with bingo, youth or older people’s activities. The centre is working in partnership with the community towards a positive future and will continue to work owith and on behalf of the Southill community for many years to come!
