Stanzas 3rd birthday celebrations to take place this weekend

From July 20th – 23rd Stanzas 3rd birthday celebrations will be taking place with their annual birthday bash. ‘A Weekend of Words’ is free all though donations are welcome.

Stanzas is an event for emerging writers to express themselves, develop their craft, and meet interesting, like-minded people. It is based in the Limerick City area, and takes place on the third Friday of every month.

This year there are nine events planned over four days and it’s going to be spectacular way to celebrate Stanzas 3rd birthday. Join them at Ormston House for the official launch party at 7 pm on Thursday 20th, featuring poetry by Ilyana Kuhling and the premiere of Results Night by Mikey Casey. The film is a coming-of-age action bromantic comedy which took a total of 6 months to complete.

Friday July 21st will see a number of events taking place. At 12pm at Ormston House you can enjoy some breakfasr while listening to pop-up culture at the Culture and Croissants event. At 3pm at Lucky Lane there will be a Closed Mic event. Shane Vaughan will be reading some Yeats, Jared Nadin will present some anachronistic poems, Darragh Roche will be reading Seamus Heaney, Mel White will be rhyming in iambic pentameter with Shakespearean sonnets.and Brooklyn Bond will present work from EE Cummings. Following this at 7pm in Hook & Ladder Stanzas will be hosting ‘The Big One’ . It’s Stanzas as you’ve come to know it! Reading on the night will be Stanzas Co-Founder Caleb ‘B-Boy’ Brennan, as well as Paul McNamara accompanied by Aisling White on Piano .Following this will be their famous open-mic! This year the open mic is dedicated in memoriam to Teri Murray, who passed away this year and was a great poet with a strong fondness for outsiders, drifters, and vagabonds – truly the makings of great poetry and poets alike. You can sign up for open mic on the night.

Saturday July 22nd will feature Culture and Croissants yet again at Ormston House at 12pm.  This Saturday event will feature a piece of experimental poetry written collaboratively by Shane, Caleb, and Micheal Rowsome entitled ‘On Creativity’. Staying at Ormston House at 3pm there will be an afternoon of fiction, ‘Microfictions’. Edward O’Dwyer and Shane ‘BJaysus’ Vaughan will treat the people to an afternoon of fiction. Then at 7pm in Hook & Ladder Dublin’s ‘Slam Sunday’ is crossing the pale and coming on down to take over for the night. They’ll be showcasing their huge range of talent and bowling us over with slam, spoken word, and poetic rants.

Finally on Sunday July 23rd yet another Culture and Croissants event will be taking place at Ormston House this time with Rosie O’Regan and Tim Cunningham on words, and Jared ‘Mr Tech’ Nadin on music.
