Limericks newest hub for all things music, Steamboat Records, has opened its doors to the public this Monday, November 7.

The record store, which is located on the lively Thomas Street, is under the management of Steamboat Music, the largest instrument store in Munster.

Owner of the new store, Mark Carey talks about where the idea for the new store derived from: “I was at a wedding for Dearbhail, the Assistant Manager here and I was talking to my manager of the store and we were just talking about football and stuff and trying to find a better location than expanding our store on steamboat quay so we decided to attempt to find a unit uptown and we settled on Thomas Street. The mix between having a pedestrianized street, all the cafes, a lot of places people go for lunch, its perfect.”

The store will sell a wide range of products, from CDs and DVDs to Comic Books, Records and Vinyls. There is sure to be something to suit each and every customer.

Steamboat RecordsMark explained the most popular items from his past experience are:  ”New released CDs and records, something that HMV didn’t really have up until the time they closed. So there’s a big demand for a lot of albums people didn’t really have access to unless they’re looking at them online. There’s a big trend of people in their early 20s buying records.”

Mark continued to say: “I find I struggle to discover new music unless I can actually browse, some of the best stuff I have ever come across is just pure chance by picking them up, from enjoying the artwork or something. So hopefully there are a lot of people like me.”

Mark concluded by saying: “We’re going to keep expanding our range and stock”.
